Adolescent or teen orthodontics is the most common time our patients begin to see an orthodontist. Between the ages of 11 and 15, most, if not all, of the permanent teeth have erupted. Many children in this age range start their treatment around the same time as their friends so it’s more socially accepted. Also, adolescents and teens are more aware at this age of crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites because their appearance is so important. Because they’re more conscious of these bite issues, most patients are excited to get braces or other treatments started. These problems rarely correct themselves on their own and prompt most parents to seek recommendations for orthodontic treatment.
